The nature of leadership is situational, making it difficult to pin down exactly what makes a good leader and what doesn't. There are certain qualities, however, that mark strong leadership across the board. From confidence to respect, here are 11 qualities which make a good leader.


People are naturally drawn to confidence. Being confident that you will succeed means being confident that your team can succeed, which translates to trust.


Having a positive air in a collaborative environment is essential. No one enjoys negative comments, and being around someone pessimistic can make others question themselves. A strong team needs to know they're doing well, and that is only possible with positive reinforcement.


The ability to work well with others is a sign of a strong leader who not only reaches out to collaborate with other management, but with their subordinates as well. Leaders invite input from everyone and make sure no one is overlooked.


Transparent leadership is something of growing importance in today's world. Not only is it necessary to be honest with your team about your vision, but you must be equally straightforward when addressing group issues as well. If someone isn't pulling their weight, a good leader will address the problem in a positive but truthful manner.
